Jean Robbins LICSW

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker LICSW with 30 years of clinical experience over a variety of settings including hospitals, addiction treatment programs, primary care medical practices, hospice and private therapy practices.

Several years ago I had the privilege of developing, and serving as the clinical director, of two highly innovative addiction treatment programs for women. The first was a comprehensive day treatment program for women and their children, and the second was a treatment program for pregnant and postpartum women at Women & Infants hospital. Both of these programs were the first of their kind in the state of Rhode Island. My work with patients in a PCP office, included assisting individuals with chronic medical conditions and many with comorbid mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, to develop more effective ways of coping and improving the quality of their lives. Over many years of clinical practice, I have become well versed in understanding and treating the myriad of mental health issue and/ or disorders that many of us suffer from.

I was born and raised in Rhode Island.  I graduated from Quinnipiac College with a BA in psychology, and ten years later with an MSW from RI College.

I consider my clinical practice to be eclectic, and my specialties include but are not limited to the following, bereavement, chronic illness, life transitions, addiction and it’s impact on a family system, psychological trauma, and a broad spectrum of mental health issues.

I learned at an early age that kindness, compassion, respect and integrity (defined as doing the right thing even when no one is watching), are the foundations for meaningful interactions with others. I continue to live by these values in both my personal and professional life.  I believe a therapeutic relationship is the foundation for successful treatment. My approach as a therapist is direct, supportive and collaborative. It is always a privilege to assist in an individual’s journey to wellness. I am currently welcoming new patients.
